Housed in the old residence of the District Officer (next to the Municipal Gardens), the Municipal Museum doubles as the historical archive of Lemesos (Limassol), as well as showcasing the city’s history and culture from the 18th century onwards through written and oral documents, photographs, videos, newspaper and magazine clippings, furniture, ornaments, artifacts, clothing, and other sources.
The building itself was restored by the municipality from 2002 - 2011, and in cooperation with the island’s Press and Information Office, provides a place where scientists, researchers, journalists, university students and the general public can access digitised archives on Lemesos.
The four archives are of invaluable historical significance and are comprised of: The Newspaper Archive (dating from 1878); The Press Releases Archive (dating from 1962); The Photography Archive, and The Film Archive in digitalized form.
